10月24日にサザビーズ ・パリ でオークション 「シュルレアリスムとその遺産 」が開催された。ルネ・マグリット の《黒魔術》（1934）が予想落札価格の2倍となる1070万ユーロ（約18億6100万円）で落札されるなど、ほとんどのロットが予想落札価格超えとなり、総売り上げが2690万ユーロ（約46億7800万円）と、フランスのサザビーズにおけるシュルレアリスム・オークションとしては史上2番目に高い額となった。
そんな同セールで最も注目を集めたのが、サルバドール・ダリ による《渦巻く海のネックレス》（1963）だ。18金製のネックレスは波打つ形状に彫刻されており、トップ部分には67個のダイヤモンドと大粒のバロック養殖真珠があしらわれている。さらにトップからは、エメラルドとサファイアのビーズをそれぞれ61個連ねたタッセルが下がっており、これらが一体となって黄金の海岸に打ち寄せては砕ける波を表現している。ダリは1941年から1970年代にかけて金・貴石のジュエリーを制作したが、ガラ＝サルバドール・ダリ財団に39点が所蔵されている 以外のまとまった情報は無く、非常に珍しいものだ。
フランスのサザビーズ宝飾品部門責任者オレリー・ヴァンデヴォルドが主導したセールは、世界各地からの激しい入札合戦 を経て、予想落札価格30万～50万ユーロ（約5300万円～9000万円）の2倍となる73万6600ユーロ（約1億3000万円）で落札された。

サザビーズが公表した《渦巻く海のネックレス》の来歴によれば、ダリは1954年に同作の構想を描いた。その後1963年にダリの長年の協力者であるニューヨークの宝飾商カルロス・アレマニーによって制作され、同年、石油一族の御曹司ピエール・シュルンベルジェと結婚したばかりのサン・シュルンベルジェによって購入された。彼女はその後、ダリの代表的なパトロンとなり、ダリは1963年から1965年の間に彼女の肖像画を何度も描いている。
その後、ピエールは1986年に、サンは2007年に死去し、サザビーズに夫婦の美術品および宝飾品コレクションが託された。《渦巻く海のネックレス》は2014年に初めてオークションにかけられ、予想落札価格10万～15万ドル（現在の為替で約1500万円～2300万円）のところ、66万5000ドル（約1億円）で落札された。購入したのは、ピエールが最初の結婚で設けた5人の子どものうちの1人、アンヌ・シュルンベルジェだった。アンヌは死去する2025年4月まで同作を所持し、今回再びサザビーズへと託されることとなった。
アンヌは建築家、芸術支援者、慈善家として知られており、サザビーズはこの秋のオークションシーズンに彼女のコレクションを数回に分けて出品する。中でも、アンヌが最も初期かつ重要なパトロンでもあったクロード＆フランソワ＝ザビエル・ラランヌ夫妻 による貴重な作品が注目されている。アンヌが1976年に依頼した《カバのバー》は、カバの中にバーカウンターを設けた青銅（ブロンズ）製の同シリーズが生まれる前のものであり、珍しい銅（カッパー）製であることから、700万ドル（約10億6800万円）の予想落札価格が付けられている。同作は12月10日にサザビーズ・ニューヨークの新拠点で行われるデザイン・セール・シリーズに出品される予定だ 。（翻訳：編集部）
